During Flagler's Business Week 2024, three student teams were collectively awarded more than $8,000 in seed money to bring their entrepreneurial ideas to life.

For the fifth annual COM Week speech competition, students were asked to respond to the topic "Beyond the Paycheck: how do you define your personal or professional value?" within 3-5 minutes.

Flagler Graphic Design students take home esteemed ADDY awards from American Advertising Federation
A group of Flagler College Graphic Design students were recognized for their creative marketing and advertising coursework by the Jacksonville chapter of the American Advertising Awards this week with 10 of them taking home awards for their submissions. Commonly known as the ADDY Awards, this "is the advertising industry's largest and most representative competition, attracting over 40,000 entries every year in local chapters of the American Advertising Federation (AAF) competitions," according to the submission website. "The mission of the [ADDY award] competition is to recognize and reward the creative spirit of excellence in the art of advertising." This annual AAF competition has local, state, and national tiers. Flagler's student winners were recognized as "the very best," among the regional market. At the second tier, local ADDY winners compete against winners from other local clubs in one of 15 district competitions with a chance to advance to the national stage level.

Coastal Environmental Science students venture to the West Coast for presentation of research at national conference
A talented group of Coastal Environmental Science students recently joined professors from Flagler's Natural Sciences Department on a trip to Portland, Ore., where they presented research at the national Coastal and Estuarine Research Federation (CERF). This group consisted of students who had received academic credit for their efforts and collaboration on the research projects of Associate Professors of Natural Sciences: Matthew Brown and Ed McGinley.

Omicron Delta Kappa Celebrates Circle Presidents
Omicron Delta Kappa, the National Leadership Honor Society, celebrates students who are serving as circle (chapter) presidents. Students who serve as circle presidents are leaders amongst leaders. Members of ODK must be sophomores, juniors, seniors, or graduate/professional students in the top 35% of their class and embrace the Society's ideals. They also must demonstrate leadership experience in at least one of the five pillars of campus life celebrated by ODK: academics and research, athletics, service to campus and community, communications, and creative and performing arts. Fewer than five percent of students on a campus are invited to join each year.

The Gargoyle, Flagler's student-run newspaper, is proud to announce that incoming editors Gabby Alfveby and Hannah Duffey have each received prestigious Society of Professional Journalists (SPJ) Mark of Excellence Awards in a regional competition.

Lion's Cage Competition
During Flagler's Business Week 2023, three student teams were collectively awarded more than $5,000 in seed money to bring their entrepreneurial ideas to life. This winning group of students competed against more than 40 peers across 16 teams in Business Week's "reverse-pitch competition." Ahead of Business Week, teams were tasked with creating a business solution to one of four key issues: affordable housing, homeowners' insurance, resiliency in coastal communities, and the future of work.

A select group of student leaders from the campus community was inducted into the Flagler College Circle of Omicron Delta Kappa on Feb. 3. The organization was founded in 1914 to recognize and encourage achievement in five major phases of campus life: academics and research, athletics, service to campus and community, communications, and creative and performing arts.

"History Detectives" core class interactive presentation
Students in Flagler's core education class titled "History Detectives-Russia and Ukraine: A Turbulent History," presented their research findings on the history behind the conflict between Russia and Ukraine to visitors in the Ringhaver Student Center. In the course instructed by Professor Alex Cummins, students explored two central issues related to the conflict: the validity of Putin's justification to invade Ukraine on Feb. 24, 2022, and Ukrainians' desire to have closer relations with the West than with Russia.
