Flagler College to Premiere Preserving the Ponce Documentary and Host Open House of Newly Renovated Ponce Hall

St. Augustine, FL (12/18/2025) — Flagler College will welcome the community for the premiere of Preserving the Ponce, a new documentary celebrating the history and restoration of the former Hotel Ponce de Leon, on Wednesday, Jan. 14, 2026, at 10 a.m. in Lewis Auditorium. The screening will be followed by an open house of the newly renovated Ponce Hall, giving guests a first look at restored spaces and new interpretive exhibits inside one of America's most iconic landmarks.

Built in 1888 by industrialist Henry Flagler, the Ponce was a marvel of its age-boasting electricity installed by Thomas Edison, dazzling Tiffany-stained glass, and Spanish Renaissance architecture that helped establish St. Augustine as a premier Gilded Age destination. Today, the building stands as the architectural and cultural heart of Flagler College.

Preserving the Ponce traces the landmark's evolution from luxury hotel to National Historic Landmark and home to generations of Flagler students. Through archival materials, expert interviews, and immersive visual storytelling, the documentary captures the Ponce's enduring legacy and the College's commitment to safeguarding it for future generations.

Following the screening, guests are invited inside Ponce Hall for a self-guided open house showcasing recently restored areas of the building. Visitors will be able to explore the revitalized spaces, interact with new interpretive exhibits, learn about preservation efforts, and experience how thoughtful renovation has renewed the building's beauty while honoring its historic character.
