Flagler College Launches Inaugural History Maker in Residence Program Featuring R.L. Stine and Erin Brockovich

St. Augustine, FL (06/30/2025) — Flagler College is proud to announce the launch of its inaugural History Maker in Residence program, a new initiative designed to bring nationally recognized thought leaders to campus for immersive, multi-day residencies that engage students and employees in meaningful conversations around creativity, advocacy, leadership, and impact.

The program kicks off this fall with two dynamic figures who have shaped culture and history through different, yet equally powerful, means: R.L. Stine, bestselling author of the Goosebumps and Fear Street series, and Erin Brockovich, renowned environmental activist and consumer advocate.

"This program was created to inspire our campus by bringing history makers directly into the student experience," said John Delaney, President of Flagler College. "Both R.L. Stine and Erin Brockovich have influenced generations through storytelling and advocacy. We are thrilled to welcome them to Flagler."

One of the most prolific authors of children's horror literature, R.L. Stine, will serve as the first-ever History Maker in Residence from Oct. 7-9, 2025. Over his three-day residency, Stine will visit classrooms, host a student storytelling event, participate in faculty and staff development sessions, and engage in informal conversations with students about the creative process, fear as a narrative tool, and the evolution of young adult fiction.

Environmental justice leader Erin Brockovich will serve as the program's second resident from November 19-20, 2025, and serve as the Presidential Speaker Series keynote speaker on November 19, 2025. Her residency will focus on civic leadership, advocacy, resilience, and ethical decision-making. Brockovich will engage with students in classroom and co-curricular settings, lead staff workshops, and share her personal journey from legal clerk to global activist.

The History Maker in Residence program was created to connect Flagler College students with accomplished figures whose work exemplifies influence, leadership, and cultural relevance. Each residency includes academic engagement, student life experiences, and staff development, offering a 360-degree learning environment rooted in real-world impact.
